To get the candidates for Miss Virtual World 2013 known a bit better I asked all of them the same 7 questions. I thought to follow the challenge it is always great to know a bit about all the ladies before and see who you wanna give your love and support to
So, meet Miss Uruguay 2013, Leah McCullough…
WM: “Please introduce yourself and tell us about your personality and tell us why you entered MVW 2013.”
LM: “Hello! I’m Leah McCullough and while my SL name sounds Scottish (I LOVE Scotland!)… I’m from Montevideo Uruguay, a small country in South America. So, apart from English, I also speak Spanish, which is my mother tongue. My family is part Spanish part Italian and I’m very passionate about what I do as most Latin people are. I’m a huge football (soccer) fan and I love traveling.”
If I have to describe my personality, I think I’m a happy person, I like helping others and treating people with respect. I believe in working hard to achieve my goals and dreams. Sometimes I’m a bit of a dreamer and I’m constantly thinking of new things to do, new ideas, new projects. I’m honest and loyal, I don’t like falseness, envy, or people who are nice to you only when they need you. I try to be professional in everything I do, and when I make mistakes, and say I’m sorry after I messed it up. Sounds silly I know, but I think it is important to recognize your mistakes.
I have been in Second Life for over 4 years and a half and since the beginning I loved SL modeling and fashion. I started modeling in March 2008 and since then it has been quite a journey! I think I first auditioned for Miss Virtual Wold back in 2009… Okay.. now I feel OLD! And the worse part is that I remember what I wore for that first audition! hahaha but I’ve always loved challenges and Miss Virtual Wold was surely one I wanted to be part of! But well.. here I am… 3 years later… after trying time after time after time… But to see my name in the candidates list the other day… was definitely worth the wait!
I think Miss Virtual Wold has been one of the most influential events in SL fashion and modeling since the beginning. I remember when I had to interview Mimmi for a magazine after she won Miss Virtual Wold, and how lots of models started to wear her skin… Cause she was fabulous and inspired us all, like all the other Miss Virtual Worlds, Miaa, Serene and Anna. I’ve shared Miss Virtual Wold with some of my best friends in SL, looking at it from the outside, as a supporter, as a friend, as a listener. I’ve seen the countless hours of their styling, their nervousness before interviews, their craziness to find that PERFECT item… and not to mention fit everything together and find poses! Miss Virtual Wold pushes you to give your best and even when you do it, you have to go and do even better. For all that I want to be a part of it.
WM: “What do you think will be the best thing about taking part in this contest? What do you think will be the worst?”
LM: “There are two things that I believe would be the best of Miss Virtual Wold. The first one is the possibility of making a difference and reaching more people because of the exposure you get by being a finalist. I think that SL modeling has achieved a point where there’s a lot of backstabbing and a race for fame and spotlights. Where some people just do whatever to get a job. I believe that the most valuable things and the most rewarding things come from hard work and perseverance. And if I get the possibility of inspiring people to work hard in the right way to achieve their dreams, I’d be very, very happy.”
And the second thing is the challenges. I love when people set a style or a theme…. and go nuts over it… and yes….yes…. I complain while I’m doing it!! hahaha I would IM a friend and say something like “UFFFFFF I can’t find anything I like!!” (and I can picture my friends laughing at this cause they have seen that message poping up in their IMs more than once!!!) haha but well I think that’s our own pressure to give our best that plays a part there. I love when I have to go investigate, find new things, look at what I have in my inventory and give it a twist! I love that about SL, how we can modify things to fit our craziest dreams. And of course…It can be frustrating.. exasperating… but I know the result of hard work is definitely rewarding!
And about the worst… I would say that it will be the bitterness some people show towards the contestants. The other day I was reading an article about cyber-bulling and how this affects people’s lives. We need to be careful, cause an innocent comment can hurt someone.. Even worse, when people go out of their way inventing things, or coming up with rumours, just to make someone else look bad. I wonder if they even stop for a second and think what they might be doing to this other person, how he or she would be feeling after reading those things. I’m not saying we have to get along or even like everybody, cause that’s just impossible, but respect and good manners should always be a part of our life.
WM: “Some anonymous people say this competition is rigged. What are your thoughts on this?”
LM: “Well, I’ve seen people complaining about most SL competitions and contests. I think as a rule.. people will always complain and shout that something is rigged when the results are not what they wanted. In my opinion things in Miss Virtual Wold are done in a fair way, and each person involved gives their best to make it that way. But again, people will think whatever they want, no matter what we say or how much we explain something. What’s left for us, is a clean conscience and the knowledge of having done things the right way.”
WM :”What qualities do you have that make you the perfect MISS VIRTUAL WORLD?
LM: “First as humans, the word perfect is not really one that could describe us, thankfully! Cause if we were perfect, everything would be soooo boring!! haha But mmmm, I think one of the things that could help to be a great Miss Virtual Wold is that I’m open to feedback and to accept advice from others. I think it is essential that you are able to look at what you are doing objectively, take a step back, and think, consider other points of views and ideas. Also, and while I know this is very typical in a pageant responses haha I love helping others. I think to be a good Miss Virtual Wold you need to be selfless enough as to dedicate your time and effort in helping others, wether is organizing an event, or just answering an IM from another person. Sometimes is not the big things that make the difference, but the small ones… the daily things you do. I think that by giving a good example of professionalism and humanity you are able to reach others and inspire them to do better each day. Also, I’m not afraid of taking chances, of risking and trying new things, to think outside the box and be different. I believe in letting my work and passion show who I am.”
WM: “What type of personality should never be chosen to win MISS VIRTUAL WORLD?”
LM: “Well, I think that a Miss Virtual Wold should never be fake, selfish or vain, shouldn’t disrespect others or do things for her personal gain. As I said in the previous questions, Miss Virtual World is exposed to people and also, inspires them. So things she does should be done with the best of intentions and having the highest respect towards others.”
WM: “What do you hope to gain from your experience in MVW 2013?”
LM: “I think that there’s a lot to gain from being part of Miss Virtual Wold, for example, more experience, more chances to reach people to share my passion for modeling, styling, fashion. Being able to learn from each instance, each styling, each show, each friend. And also, be able to focus more on something that has been very dear to my since I joined SL. I’ve always tried to help in every way I can in charities, events, and fairs, either by contributing with items to raise money, by blogging, by modeling, or by promoting them, and I hope with Miss Virtual Wold I am able to continue doing this and reach more people, help more.”
WM: “How would winning this title change you?”
LM: “I think it won’t change me personally, it would change my SL for obvious reasons haha, but not the real me, not the person behind the avatar. Your work, your professionalism, your style and uniqueness is what makes you, yourself. Winning helps to reach out and do things for others, and that’s what I love about this opportunity, as I said before.. to make a difference.”
