Meet the official candidates for MVW 2013 – Miss China 2013: MeiMei Shiu

To get the candidates for Miss Virtual World 2013 known a bit better I asked all of them the same 7 questions. I thought to follow the challenge it is always great to know a bit about all the ladies before and see who you wanna give your love and support to ;)

So, meet Miss China 2013, MeiMei Shiu…

WM: “Please introduce yourself and tell us about your personality and tell us why you entered MVW 2013.”
MS: “My name is MeiMei Shiu.  I am Chinese and currently living in Canada.  I rezzed into Second Life on September 2010.  I heard a lot from my friends on World of Warcraft. I was not fully aware of what to expect from SL, but as an avid gamer I thought I’d give it a try.  The first few days I was just hopping around different newbie areas, I was about to give up as nothing excited me.  A week later my computer had an issue and Second Life was the only thing I could run on it without having it crash. It was meant to be I guess.”
I am a fun-loving, hardworking, and goal oriented person.  My friends say I have a kind heart that is always supportive with  hilarious commentaries and uplifting energy, and  I am a determined fighter who won’t stop until my goals are achieved.  I enjoy helping people on SL.  I especially love bringing my expertise in computers in RL to SL to assist people to make their SL easier and more enjoyable.  I work hard on my SL modeling.  I put a lot of effort on my styles, fashion shows, and contests as they allow me to open my creativeness and challenge myself to the next level and at the same time, I never forget to have fun with my friends and family on SL.
Miss Virtual World is a recognized, prestigious and elite beauty pageant on SL.  Every year many talented models participate to show their styles and works.  I enter MVW 2013 because I feel that after over a year of practices on SL modeling, I am ready to leave my comfort zone and compete in a higher level of competition  and bringing along my unique style and creativeness.

WM: “What do you think will be the best thing about taking part in this contest? What do you think will be the worst?”
MS: “I believe the best thing about taking part in this contest is I get to meet and make friends with all the contestants from different countries.  I am Chinese and I am living in Canada; one of the most diverse countries in the world.  I am interested in Anthropology as I find different cultures unique and I always learn something new  talking to people from different countries.  It excites and fascinates me when learning more about different cultures.”
I think the worst part for being part of this contest is time management.  I have been told from my friends who have participated in the past Mr./Miss Virtual World, that there will be a lot of styling challenges and press conferences I will have to attend.  As a business woman in the IT field, I think finding the balance in my busy schedules between RL and SL would be a big challenge but I am totally ready.

WM: “Some anonymous people say this competition is rigged. What are your thoughts on this?”
MS: “I think we all know there is only one winner in every contest and competition, in SL or RL, and it is understandable to feel frustrated when the results are not in our favor after putting a lot of hard work into a contest.  There are many factors that affect the judges, such as personal preference on styles and taste, life experience, and even a judge having a bad day; after all we are human.  This is why sometimes the results may be controversial as there is only one winner and there is no way to make everyone happy.   The factors I mentioned are really not something any contestant can control.  As a contestant the only thing we can control is putting forth our greatest effort to do the best we can while enjoying the process of preparing for the contest .  Ultimately, the most important factors are the experiences and the fun in preparing for the contest.”

WM: “What qualities do you have that make you the perfect MISS VIRTUAL WORLD?”
MS: “I believe the perfect Miss Virtual World is not only a style icon, but also an example for new models. MVW should display a kind heart, have lots of patience, excellent skills in PR and high in emotional quotient. That being said I possess and live by all these qualities.
Being selected as the official candidate of MVW, and from the feedback I have been receiving from many different designers, photographers and fellow models, I believe my styles and taste in fashion meet the standard for MVW.   As I mentioned before, my friends and people I work with say I am a very patience and caring person.  I love helping people, and I often have amateurs asking me for assistance in modeling and other questions related to SL fashion/modeling.  I always help and go out of my way often being concerned that I could have done a better job explaining or showing a certain technique but I am always rewarded when they thank me or they themselves win in a competition.
As we all know, organizing and participating in different fashion related events and charity work are the duties for Miss Virtual World.  To be successful in these events, PR skills and having a calm mind are very important. My  fun-loving characteristic helps people feel comfortable when they approach me in any circumstances; at parties, work environments, and during difficult time that people need emotional support or advise.  On top of that,  my experience as the designer liaison for L’Homme magazine definitely helps me in the PR area.

WM: “What type of personality should never be chosen to win MISS VIRTUAL WORLD?”
MS: “I believe that there is no single bad personality in this event. Everybody in this competition have been chosen because of their dedication, determination, and discipline. To single out a personality that would be bad may indeed be the downfall of a competition that prides itself on choosing a unique individual every year to represent all the hard work that went forth into making this pageant.  I believe if we start leaving out certain personalities we will overlook something special that will enhance MVW. The only bad personality in my opinion is someone who never tries and gives up, meaning they would have never been chosen to be in the pageant in the first place.”

WM: “What do you hope to gain from your experience in MVW 2013?”
MS: “I hope that I will gain more fun and excitement from my experience in MVW 2013 along with the friendships I will gain from the pageant.  I always enjoy modeling in SL as I love fashion and being creative when styling.  I always have fun with it and I think the upcoming styling challenges will be a lot of fun and will be exciting.  As I mentioned earlier, I love meeting people from different counties as I am always excited to learn about different cultures.  Being part of MVW definitely is a great opportunity to get to know people from different ethnic background.”

WM: “How would winning this title change you?”
MS: “I don’t think winning this title will change me; however, if I won this title, I would do the best I can to help others to win the title next year.  This would be my next goal after winning, and an achievement I would love to have under my belt.”

This is so interesting John. Will you ask them the imloacitipns of this treatment for chronic anxiety? Will they be able to just tweak the anxiety part of the brain…make it not fire so strongly over every little bump in the road? (Yes, the doctor is cute, but so are you and Cubby). Woof!
